defend the delegates project

The Precinct Delegates are the backbone of the Michigan Republican Party – the most active and engaged force that holds Republican elected officials accountable to its platform and principles.

The power that the Precinct Delegates hold is massive. They choose the Republican nominees of Attorney General, Secretary of State, Board of Education, Michigan Supreme Court and other crucial positions during conventions as well as County and District Party leadership. The role of the Precinct Delegates has prevented the Big Money from being able to buy the nominee for these races like they do in most statewide contests.

MAGA conservatives have dominated precinct delegate recruitment in recent cycles, with establishment Republicans being crowded out and their impact minimized. No longer are a handful of establishment consultants able to control the outcome of convention races. The grassroots Precinct Delegates are finally calling the shots and putting people into power who are staunchly and unapologetically America First.

Because the establishment is getting defeated so thoroughly in Precinct Delegate recruitment with no end in sight, there is growing talk of robbing Precinct Delegates of their rights and giving the Big Money total control over the candidate selection through the notoriously corrupt and vulnerable statewide Primary process.

"These are all political positions so let's just act like it. And I don't think two thousand people who sit in a musty convention hall are an adequate representation of the whole party. It self-selects for weirdness and extremeness,” said media commentator James Dickson, who hosts the DeVos-amplified Michigan Enjoyer podcast.

“Dana Nessel would have never won the primary. We are tired of these clowns sneaking into office through backroom deals. If you can’t win a primary, you don’t belong. Stand before the people, defend your ideas, and earn respect the right way. No more rigged conventions. No more hiding. It’s time to demand real leadership again,” fORMER gubernatorial candidate Garrett Soldano wrote in an X post.

There is additional social media chatter by party insiders who are demanding that Precinct Delegates be robbed of their rights.

Party officials like Kalamazoo GOP County Chair Kelly Sackett boast that they ought to be judge, jury and executioner for who can serve as a Precinct Delegate, unilaterally ousting delegates who do not conform to THEIR dictates even when they are duly elected by the People.

Other Party officials like 6th Congressional District State Committee member Matthew Wilk use legal sophistry to argue that Precinct Delegates are glorified volunteers, even though each Precinct Delegate is a duly-elected office holder voted into office by their community through a process outlined in the Michigan State Code under penalty of law.

It is clear that action is needed to REAFFIRM the rights of the Precinct Delegates. We cannot afford to be lackadaisical while our rights are under attack. This is why we are urging all Precinct Delegates to support the DEFEND THE DELEGATES RESOLUTION.

The Defend the Delegates Resolution has been introduced to State Committee by Dennis Marburger of the 11th Congressional District.

The full text of the resolution can be accessed HERE.

We want all Precinct Delegates, in particular State Committee members, to go ON THE RECORD in support of this resolution and in support of not only reaffirming the rights of the Precinct Delegate but strengthening those rights as well.

There is currently a DELEGATE BILL OF RIGHTS in the works, being crafted by the Policy Committee of the Michigan Republican Party. We intend to get this Defend the Delegates Resolution passed in order to build momentum for the Delegate Bill of Rights, which will be approved and then put to bed all of the schemes and power-grabs of the last remnants of the reviled political establishment in the MICHIGAN Republican Party.

If you would like to publicly endorse the Defend the Delegates resolution, please submit your information on this form:
